Tracing a compelling trajectory through the evolution of the symphonic tradition, tonight's programme spans the refined symmetry of the Classical ideal to the kinetic vitality of twentieth-century modernism, moving from the intimate eloquence of the solo violin to the expansive brilliancy of the full orchestra. Conductor XU Zhong is joined by the legendary violinist Pinchas Zukerman to illuminate three masterworks of strikingly distinct aesthetic idioms.

Albert Roussel's Symphony No. 4 in A Major embodies the crisp architectural clarity, rhythmic incisiveness, and disciplined momentum characteristic of French modernism. In Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, Zukerman's warm, noble artistry reveals the serene grace, effortless proportion, and tonal purity at the heart of the Classical tradition.
