FRANCK Sonata in A Major
Tonight, the world - renowned Japanese flute player Shigenori Kudo will collaborate with pianist Cecilia Kudo to perform classic works by five French composers. The moon symbolizes both yearning and subconsciousness. Debussy’ s famous piano piece, Clair de Lune, was originally named Promenade Sentimentale, meaning “sad stroll”. Later, the editor changed it to Clair de Lune, giving the flute’ s sound a mournful quality. The following four preludes, especially the third La Fille Aux Cheveux de Lin, are known for their concise musicality. Debussy describes the girl’ s purity and serenity, allowing the piece to disperse like the breath of spring. Saint - Saëns’ s music, though initially giving a plain impression, combines beauty and rationality. His Romance and Odelette stand out for their refreshing and memorable melodies. Contrasting Fauré’ s work, Poulenc promotes a concise and distinct style in his compositions. The Flute Sonata features elements of classical music, adding an interesting dimension. Initially composed for violin, Frank’ s Sonata in A Major is elevated to new heights by the flute’ s bright and penetrating timbre. The romantic piece evokes various emotions from the first note to the last.
